The EU fund free "health reporting courses" to improve the standard of health journalism

Dear BBC,

If any of you folk happen to stumble upon this piece, then I ask a small favour of you. The EU has set aside funding for free of charge health reporting courses. The EU is concerned that in future when journalists report upon important health matters that they know what they are talking about. Whilst the Guardian undoubtedly has some solid NHS reporters in its stable, the BBC were found especially lacking throughout the NHS Bill debate. For four days in June 2012, you will have the best health minds in the business coach your journalists through the latest demands of reporting on the health 'industry'. The courses are run over two separate dates, and there still are a number of places available. Full refreshments will be provided.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions. The FDA has reaffirmed the truth of this aphorism with its policy about Colchicine. Here's the story: I recently spoke with a friend who has a family member suffering from Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF), an auto-inflammatory disorder, most commonly seen in eastern Mediterranean populations. The condition is characterized by recurrent painful inflammation of the abdomen, chest and joints, accompanied by fever. FMF is associated with mutation of a gene on chromosome 16 involved with regulating Pyrin, a protein that is part of the inflammatory response. There is no specific test for the disease.
